George Duchene

George Duchene a life-long El Paso resident, went to be with our Lord Oct. 10, 2019 with loving companion Elvira Lopez and family members at his side. George Duchene was born March 1, 1932. As a successful business owner, his career was in the food distribution business in El Paso, where he developed close partnerships and friendships in the grocery industry such as Big 8 Supermarkets. He is survived by Elvira Lopez, daughters Sylvia (Dale) Justus, Pat (Ron) Williams, Lori (Joseph) Ortiz; and sons George (Eleanor) Duchene, Jr., Steve (Annie) Duchene, Eddie Juarez and sister Yolanda (Ricardo) Lara. He was preceded in death by a son Michael (Diana) Duchene and the mother of his 6 children Aurelia Duchene. George spoke often with pride about the accomplishments of his grandchildren including Suzanna Yudico, Sandra Yudico, Marc (Amy) Duchene, Paul (Michael) Duchene, Nick Duchene, Alyssa Duchene, Joseph (Melissa) Ortiz, Jr., Jonathan Ortiz, Jennifer Ortiz, Christopher Duchene and Lesley (Abel) Saenz. His love and devotion also extended to his great grandchildren: Vincent Sigur, Aryanna Olson, Ella Duchene, Marcus Dre Duchene, Jonah Saenz, Noah Saenz and soon-to-be Ezra Joseph Ortiz. Known for having a quick wit and good sense of humor, he loved reminiscing about the cars he owned over the years and enjoyed going to sporting events with his sons and casinos with his daughters. To many he was known as the “Gentle Giant” because of his stature and his friendly demeanor. He was A passionate Dallas Cowboys fan and shared their highs and lows with his beloved dogs Precious and Princess at his side watching the games.

Memorial services will be held on Saturday, October 26 @ 1:00 pm.
